Effective approaches for promoting and facilitating entrepreneurship in the target sector

Bulgaria Economic Forum took a part on 21-22 October 2013 in Tirana, Albania on the fourth thematic workshop entitled “Effective approaches for promoting and facilitating entrepreneurship in the target sector”. The workshop who is the part of the project “Transnational network for SME support in the animal breeding and horticultural sector-AGRO - START”was organized by Center for Business & Parliamentary Dialog-CBPD, Albania, who is the Partner of the project.


The workshop was attended by 24 participants from the partners’ organizations and was moderated by the event manager of the CBPD, who facilitated the discussions and debates among participants during the workshop. After the opening speech held by the project manager, the workshop started with two presentations made by one expert from Albania, Mr. George Shore PhD, researcher from CPBD on the topic “Dealing with Food Waste by Microwave-Assisted Pyrolysis “ and by Mrs. Mioara Chifu, project manager of AGRO-START, on the topic “Development of the entrepreneurial initiatives in the rural areas””.


The thematic of the workshop was related to effective approaches for promoting and facilitating entrepreneurship in the target sector and under this thematic the partners involved in the project presented two good practices identified in their countries. For that, the project partners contacted their target groups in order to identify good practices in their countries that best tackle the challenges of SMEs and provide successful or innovative approaches to best exploit the opportunities.


Thus, during the workshop, the participants jointly analysed the best practices presented in order to identify success factors and obstacles that could inhibit the transfer of this approach to the participating organisations, they exchanged information and knowledge and at end, they selected 6 good practices examples being considered the best of those presented. These best practices examples selected are:


* Bulgarian Business Angels Network supports entrepreneurship in the horticultural and animal breeding sector, by BEF, Bulgaria

* iFarm: a farm management application for mobile devices, by CERTH-Greece

Entrepreneurial Animation, University of Molise, Italy


Integrated Center for Agricultural Entrepreneurship, by ERFC, Greece

The selected examples will be included in the Guide of good practices that will be developed later in the project and based on these approaches, it will be developed also the SEE Support Service Protocol that will guide business support entities on how to best provide support services to SMEs in the animal breeding and horticulture sector in order to improve their competitiveness.


The fifth workshop will take place on 11-13 November 2013 in Ruse, Bulgaria, on the thematic “Effective support approaches to assess on entering new markets, meeting European quality standard, promotion of products and facilitate the internationalisation of SMEs” and will be organized by the project partner BSC – SME, Bulgaria.
